National-Historical Monument – Designed by the architect Ernesto de Estrada and inaugurated on March 17th, 1940. It’s part of the transformation work done by the administration of Exequiel Bustillo, president of the National Parks. It’s built in reinforced concrete with green volcanic stone, cypress wood siding and slate roof. The picturesque style denotes influence from both northamerican and mid-european architecture. The buildings are located around the square, in a “U” shape integrating architecture to landscape. Currently, many different public offices are located in these buildings: the Local Administration, Tourism Secretary, Visitors Centre, Patagonian Museum ,Sarmiento Library, Rio Negro Police. The clock in the tower has a system of historical images that appear daily at 12 AM and 6 PM.
